"OKC has traded its greatest love for its first love," that's how Oklahoma City mayor David Holt described Thursday night's trade of superstar, future Hall of Famer Russell Westbrook for superstar future Hall of Famer Chris Paul. Westbrook had spent his entire career with the Thunder and CP3 began his career in Oklahoma City when the then New Orleans Hornets had to evacuate the Crescent City after Hurricane Katrina.
The deal was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. More on all of this in today's Thunder Game Report...
Westbrook leaves as a local hero, sticking around with the Thunder and signing long term contracts after Kevin Durant left for the Golden State Warriors. After Paul George asked to be traded away last week the writing was on the wall that a new course toward the future should be taken by both Westbrook and the Thunder.
The trade won't be official for a couple of days and it's possible Paul could be traded again, but there seems to be a willingness, from the Thunder at least, to keep CP3 in OKC for next season...but more trade moves remain likely.
