"Big Tobacco" To Run Anti-Smoking Ads

Big tobacco companies are going to start warning people about the dangers of smoking.  Starting this weekend, Philip Morris, RJ Reynolds and other tobacco companies will put out the first of a series of court-ordered newspaper ads and television commercials detailing the dangers of tobacco use.  The ads are a result of a 1999 lawsuit by the Justice Department charging big tobacco companies with deceiving the public about the effects of smoking.  The court ruled in the government's favor in 2006, and the companies spent years appealing the decision.

They finally agreed to run ads on "the adverse effects of smoking."  The first of those ads will run Sunday.
