The Thunder are in Sacramento getting ready to take on former OU star Buddy Hield and the Kings. Oklahoma City hoping to extend a three game winning streak, the Kings are coming off two big time wins in Dallas and Houston. Hield hit six 3-pointers against the Rockets.
Right now the big question about this Thunder team is just how long this version of the Thunder will be together. A report by Kevin O'Conner in The Ringer this week says the Thunder are still open to trading most veterans on the roster especially older ones like Danilo Gallinari, Steven Adams, Chris Paul, Dennis Schroder and Andre Roberson.
They are much less likely to include players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Terrance Ferguson and Hamidou Diallo who are still playing under their rookie contracts and could help form the foundation of the team moving forward.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of what O'Conner says is that league sources are telling him the Thunder are willing to take on players with multiple years left on their contracts, that they're not as concerned about being over the luxury tax as had been previously thought.
Some teams might be more willing to give up a first round draft pick in return for the Thunder taking a high salary, long term contract off their hands.
Most players who signed free agent contracts this year will be eligible to be included in a trade beginning on Sunday. The NBA trade deadline is mid-afternoon on February 6th.
