Going into last Saturday's game against Kansas State Mike Gundy was a little concerned about how well his team's defenders would be able to handle the Wildcats power running attack.
Turns out there was no need to worry. The Cowboy defense had perhaps its best outing since 2011 giving up just 244 total yards.
Doing that to K-State's old school offense is one thing, grounding Tech's air raid offense is something completely different.
Or is it? OSU safety Tre Sterling says Tech's offense is very similar to what Cowboy defenders face every day in practice. He believes dealing with their own offense will help the Cowboys deal with Tech's.
"Oh it helps a lot, we're one of the best teams in the country at turbo," Sterling said after Tuesday's practice. "So it helps a lot cuz you're not gonna see anything faster than Oklahoma State's offense so it prepares us for the worst."
The Cowboys won't face "the worst" on Saturday. Texas Tech starting quarterback Alan Bowman remains out with a shoulder injury. Backup Jett Duffey will start against OSU after Duffey came on in relief of an ineffective Jackson Tyner last week against Oklahoma.
No matter, Tech will try to do what Tech does and the Cowboys will try to play defense again like it was 2011.
