Without Likekele, Cowboys Can't Hold On Against Georgetown

Oklahoma State sophomore point guard Isaac Likekele has started every game he's played at OSU and has become a force this season with one basketball analyst calling him "a linebacker with a jump shot."

But last night Likekele was out of the lineup with flu-like symptoms and the Cowboys played at times like they were all feeling a bit queasy.

The Cowboys, riding a seven game season opening winning streak and playing back at home after winning the NIT Tipoff Classic in New York, couldn't hold things together against visiting Georgetown, losing 81-74.

Hoyas guard Mac McClung dropped in 33 points, hitting three straight 3s midway through the second half.

“The stat sheet shows that he missed nine shots,” OSU coach Mike Boynton said. “I don’t remember those. I remember every one of his makes.”

McClung's big night offset an almost equally impressive game from the Cowboys' Lindy Waters III who racked up 29 points but couldn't quite get his team over the hump to avoid their first loss of the season.

“It’s the first time that this young team has seen adversity,” Waters told reporters minutes after the game. “It’s just a learning experience and tomorrow we’ve just got to get back to work and move onto the next one. It’s a long season.”

The next one comes up Sunday afternoon when Wichita State visits Gallagher-Iba Arena.
