Jalen Williams delivered a standout performance, scoring a playoff career-high 40 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 120-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Monday (June 16). This win gives the Thunder a 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals, putting them just one win away from their first NBA title. Williams, at just 24 years old, showcased his skill with 14-of-24 shooting, while teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 31 points and 10 assists.

The Thunder's dynamic duo combined to score or assist on 103 points, marking the most by a pair in an NBA Finals game in the past 50 years, according to ESPN. Despite the Pacers' late-game push, led by Pascal Siakam's 28 points, the Thunder maintained their lead. Indiana, known for their comebacks this postseason, cut an 18-point deficit to just two in the fourth quarter, but Oklahoma City responded with strong defensive plays and key baskets.

Williams' rise has been pivotal for the Thunder, who have relied on his aggressive play and scoring ability. "I'm just out there being aggressive," Williams said, as reported by NBA.com. The Thunder's defense was crucial, forcing 23 turnovers that resulted in 32 points.

The Pacers faced challenges, including Tyrese Haliburton's limited play due to a calf injury. Despite playing 34 minutes, Haliburton struggled to score, contributing only four points. Indiana's coach, Rick Carlisle, acknowledged the difficulty, stating, "He's not 100 percent."

The series continues with Game 6 in Indianapolis on Thursday (June 19), where the Pacers will attempt to avoid elimination and force a Game 7.
