Doug Gottlieb Says 'Over the Hill' Draymond Green is Not Worth a Max Deal

Doug Gottlieb: No one is against them re-signing Draymond Green and I think Draymond Green brings an incredible amount of intangibles, but there does come a point where the ‘tangibles’ just aren’t at the level of what you’re being paid. This is the downfall of every dynasty; overpaying guys for PAST success when they are clearly over the hill. If you look at Jordan’s Bulls, they did not stay attached to guys outside Jordan and Pippen. Horace Grant was their super-athletic big guy, he wasn’t their power forward on their second run. They added Dennis Rodman for the second run. Their point guard in the beginning was John Paxson, their point guard in the end was Steve Kerr. It wasn’t that John Paxson wasn’t a great player or a great fit alongside Jordan, he just got to a point where he wasn’t what he used to be. They also had Ron Harper as well. You gotta be very careful of staying attached to these ancillary pieces even when they have great intangibles. No one is saying you don’t want Draymond Green but we have to be realistic here. As much as he’s the straw who stirs the drink – he’s the ‘point center’ and he does all these other thing, there were times where he wasn’t good enough and they were better off without him on the court. There’s a huge gap between moving on from Draymond Green and not offering him a max contract, and somewhere between the two is where they’re likely to land. Forty million dollars for Draymond Green? I’m going to pass on that. Twenty million? Okay. That’s a lot but okay.” (Full Video Above)

Watch Doug Gottlieb discuss why he doesn’t think ‘over the hill’ Draymond Green deserves a 4-year, $164 million max extension with the Warriors as a secondary piece to a Golden State super team.
